An Impossible Life visualises the unseen decades of sea turtles through science-led generative AI, expanding conservation storytelling beyond traditional filmmaking.

An Impossible Life was created in collaboration with the Sea Turtle Foundation to explore what marine scientists call the “lost years” – the decades sea turtles spend surviving in the open ocean after leaving the beach. While this life stage is well understood through research, modelling and tracking data, it has never been directly documented due to the vast distances and timeframes involved.

Developed alongside marine scientists, the film uses carefully constrained generative AI as a reconstruction tool, translating scientific understanding into imagery without disturbing wildlife. By making this unseen journey visible, the project aims to deepen emotional connection and strengthen long-term conservation awareness.
